[...] don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.
The composition and framing is not very compelling. There is no element that naturally atracts the viewers attention here, it's just a little bit of everything. It seems you wanted the IR effect on both the sky and the trees to the right, and so the photograph has been framed so that the top left half is sky and top right is trees. That might have been ok hadn't it been for the second line of trees in the left hand side background. As it is now the image is split in three. The easy fix to this would be to point your camera further left or right. I tried to crop the right hand side of the image to both vertical and square format, in my opinion it makes this shot SO much better.
There's also the fact that it's shot with an IR filter. I've never seen any IR images shot by professional photographers, and so I'm led to believe quite a few dA photographers use it to create something different and eye-catching. Sure it's both different and eye-catching, but not very often in a good way. This is a damn good example of an image that would've been a lot better without the IR filter. While I'm at it I'll pass some critique on the colouring as well - I'm not a big fan of pink as a substitute for green, but of course that might just be me : )
Also, when the sky is meant to be a significant part of your image, make sure you don't get those huge highlighted areas. In this shot a large part of the sky is just blank, plain white.
Anyway...that's a whole lot of critique on a photograph I suppose you don't exactly consider your masterpiece. I hope you're not easily offended! Feel free to return the favour some day
Cheers,
-Thomas
